CHALLENGE
How can we differentiate from tech giants like LG and Vizio?
JVC is an international consumer electronics corporation, best known in its early days for launching the world’s first VHS and manufacturing phonographs. Today, JVC continues to create premium products, but its brand has become lost amidst other consumer tech giants. With JVC’s new Quantum Dot TV and Sound Bars set to hit the shelves of big box stores Walmart and Sam's Club, we were tasked with designing packaging and branding that would stand out against the competition.
APPROACH
Re-positioning a technology innovator.
An overwhelming majority of the competitors (and JVC's old packaging) went for a minimal, subdued look, using white or light gray as the dominant background color. This quickly became sterile and lost on the shelves. Our revitalized design focused on the bold tenacity behind JVC's longstanding reputation for innovation. We paired JVC's iconic red with black to create a striking contrast. The design consisted of bold angles, which drew rhythms across the packaging and indicated continuous innovation in the future. These angles were disrupted by the JVC products, which took center stage.
